Pressure Washer PSI & GPM Guide
Understand PSI and GPM together when buying an electric pressure washer or replacement triplex pump. Avoid buying on max PSI alone.

Max PSI without flow is a billboard. Cleaning speed is mostly water volume (GPM) delivered at a pressure the surface can tolerate. Buy both numbers, then match nozzles and technique.
PSI vs GPM in plain language
- PSI is how hard the water hits. Too much on soft wood or old mortar causes damage.
- GPM is how much water moves debris. Higher flow rinses detergent and mud faster.
- Cleaning units (PSI × GPM) are a rough combined score—useful when comparing similar machine classes.
Electric washers for home and light commercial
- Electric units avoid gas exhaust near buildings and are quieter for neighborhoods.
- Mind GFCI protection and cord management on wet ground.
- Look for adjustable pressure and quick-connect nozzles on the ForgeGate bullets list.
Replacement pumps
- Confirm shaft size (often 3/4" or 1") and bolt pattern before you order a triplex pump.
- Horizontal shaft pumps are common on consumer/prosumer gas carts—match orientation.
- A pump swap is cheaper than a full skid when the engine is still healthy.
Guide FAQ
Is 4500 PSI safe on vinyl siding?
Usually you will back off with tip selection and distance. High peak PSI ratings do not mean you should run the hottest tip on siding.
